NXP selects Timesys as the first commercial Linux supplier for LPC313x microcontroller series

Pittsburgh, PA – October 14, 2009 – Timesys Corporation (https://timesys.com), provider of LinuxLink, the first commercial software development framework for building custom embedded Linux®-based products, today announced the first commercial Linux support for the LPC313x series of microcontrollers from NXP Semiconductors. The LPC313x series will be supported by LinuxLink, with additional support for the family anticipated in future releases.

LinuxLink allows engineers to build custom Linux-based products for the variety of markets and applications targeted by the LPC3000 family. Customers can choose from the latest GNU-based toolchains enabled with uClibc and glibc libraries optimized for the ARM926EJ-S core. The initial release is based on the 2.6.28 Linux kernel which integrates drivers for the full range of LPC3130 reference board peripherals. Using LinuxLink, customers select from hundreds of packages and middleware for their custom root filesystem. Newer versions of Linux components, including the Linux kernel, toolchain, packages and middleware, will be available in LinuxLink as they become available from the open source community and from NXP.

NXP customers benefit from LinuxLink’s award-winning online and desktop-hosted build tools (called Factory) that provide an easy-to-use wizard for creating an initial Linux starting image. The desktop version offers more flexibility than any other Linux build platform by allowing users to integrate third-party packages, custom applications and proprietary software. LinuxLink’s update service automatically notifies customers of changes to any of the components used in their project.

LinuxLink customers have access to commonly used debugging tools within the Eclipse-based “TimeStorm” IDE. These tools help customers ensure the quality, reliability and performance of their final product. Customers receive technical support from expert Timesys engineers and have access to a vast suite of documentation.

In addition to the LinuxLink product, Timesys also offers a professional services capability to customers who require access to highly experienced Linux system developers to work on specific projects in partnership with their in-house engineers.
