Timesys Expands Support for Yocto Project and Freescale® Vybrid™ Controller Solutions

Embedded Linux pioneer launches Yocto Project-based Linux BSPs for boards in the Freescale Vybrid Controller Solutions ecosystem

Pittsburgh, PA – April 9, 2014 — Timesys Corporation (https://timesys.com), provider of easy-to-use and affordable embedded Linux solutions, today announced the expansion of its support for Freescale Semiconductor’s Vybrid controller solutions based on ARM® Technology with new Linux Board Support Packages (BSPs) based on work from the Yocto Project. The software release confirms the company’s commitment to both the Yocto Project and the Freescale Vybrid controller solutions ecosystem. In keeping with its ongoing community focus, Timesys is launching Yocto BSPs on the Freescale Vybrid SOC using Freescale Tower™ system, PHYTEC phyCORE and Device Solutions Quartz System-on-Modules (SoMs), and the PHYTEC Cosmic single board computer.

In addition to Timesys’ award-winning LinuxLink suite of embedded Linux development tools, Freescale Vybrid controller solutions developers now have access to Yocto Project-based embedded Linux builds. These community-supported projects are designed for developers that have a requirement to track the development of the Yocto Project.

“In the last few years, the Yocto Project has gained significant momentum for standardizing the build architecture of embedded Linux BSPs. Timesys has long been an advocate for open standards, and releasing BSPs for Freescale Vybrid controller solutions is just a natural step on our path to supporting and adding value to the Yocto Project,” said Brian Gildon, VP of Business Development at Timesys. “Timesys LinuxLink provides an interface for making embedded Linux development very easy. By working with Timesys, developers have both access to the most flexible and up-to-date embedded Linux software with LinuxLink, and they have a path for tracking Yocto Project progress.”

“Timesys has added a lot of value to the Vybrid controller solutions ecosystem through their commitments to the product line, the ecosystem partners, the community, and their available product offerings. By releasing Yocto builds for Vybrid controller solutions, Timesys continues to show increased support for making software easier and faster for developers building embedded devices around Vybrid controller solutions,” said Rajeev Kumar, Director of Worldwide Marketing and Business Development for Freescale’s Microcontroller business.

In addition to releasing Yocto Project-based BSPs, Timesys will support developers with an upcoming assortment of services and training options that will enable them to jump start their Yocto Project-based embedded Linux development.
