Timesys Releases Fifth-Generation, Award-Winning LinuxLink 5.0 Framework for Yocto Project Development

Pittsburgh, Pa. – February 23, 2016 — Timesys Corporation (, industry pioneer and provider of the award-winning LinuxLink suite of embedded Linux development tools, today announced the release of LinuxLink 5.0 which now supports free, custom Yocto Project configuration. This latest offering from Timesys is Yocto Project Compatible, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to bringing ease-of-use to the open source project.

The newly added Bakery, an intuitive LinuxLink 5.0 web wizard UI, makes it easy for developers to quickly configure a custom Yocto Project image, create and download a Yocto Project installer and set up the development environment — in just a few easy steps. This latest LinuxLink 5.0 addition is based on the Yocto Project and can be used by customers who are new to Yocto Project based development.

LinuxLink 5.0 uses Timesys’ semiconductor and board vendors’ Yocto Project based reference BSPs as the preferred starting points for customizations with Bakery.

Timesys also has a comprehensive offering that enables developers to jump start their Yocto Project based embedded Linux development. It includes support contracts, enabling developers to get help with their development when they need it; consultation and services that address the design and review, modifications and optimizations of embedded Linux based applications; and customized training for development teams wanting to stay abreast of best practices and new developments.

“Timesys continually invests in bringing ease of use to embedded Linux development, and as a Participant of the Yocto Project, we remain committed to making development easy for new developers, makers, and companies that prefer to focus on building differentiated software,” said Atul Bansal, President and CEO of Timesys. “Our years of advancement in bringing cloud-based workflow to embedded Linux development, combined with the expansion of our offering to include Yocto Project standards enables us to further lower the risk, complexity and cost associated with building differentiated software.”

“The Yocto Project is pleased to have Timesys as a founding member organization. Their dedication to the user experience is inspirational, particularly in configuration which is one of the most complex aspects of building any operating system,” said Jeffrey Osier-Mixon, Yocto Project Community Manager. “We are very gratified to see Timesys’ commitment to the Yocto Project and the embedded Linux community.”
