Timesys Announces Embedded Linux Support for Freescale MPC8572 Processors

Integrated Support for Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP)

Pittsburgh, PA – April 8, 2008 -- Timesys Corporation a premier provider of embedded Linux software solutions, today announced LinuxLink support for the Freescale MPC8572 PowerQUICC III multi-core processor. LinuxLink for the MPC8572 includes integrated support for symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), which balances the tasks performed by the multiple processing cores to improve performance.

With this LinuxLink, subscribers will get web-based access to a Linux platform that has been configured to operate in SMP mode for the MPC8572, including a 2.6.23 Linux kernel, toolchain and hundreds of pre-compiled packages. Additionally, subscribers will have access to TimeStorm development tools, web-based support and a vast suite of documentation to customize and test their embedded Linux platform for a given application.

“Timesys is excited to help developers tap the power of multi-core processing with embedded Linux,” said Greg Quiggle, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Timesys. “With LinuxLink, subscribers have access to the software, tools and support to quickly assemble, test and profile a custom SMP-based Linux platform.

LinuxLink for the MPC8572 will be demonstrated in the Timesys booth (#946) at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, CA on April 15-17, 2008. Timesys will show how TimeStorm, its Eclipse-based tool suite, can be used to build projects on the MPC8572.
