Timesys provides first commercial Linux solution for Atmel AT91SAM9G45 processor

LinuxLink software development framework accelerates time-to-market for intelligent control and point-of-sale terminals

Pittsburgh, PA, USA – August 25, 2009 – Timesys® Corporation (https://timesys.com), provider of LinuxLink, the first commercial software development framework for building custom embedded Linux® based products, today announced LinuxLink availability for the new AT91SAM9G45 processor from Atmel®.

This new LinuxLink release from Timesys, based around the latest 2.6.30 kernel, provides full support for Atmel’s SAM9G45 evaluation kit. Drivers are included for a wide range of system peripherals such as Ethernet, the LCD/Touchscreen controller, power management and the USB2.0 controller (in both host and device modes).

SAM9G45 customers benefit from LinuxLink’s award-winning build system (called Factory) that provides an easy-to-use wizard for creating an initial Linux starting image as well as a build engine that enables customers to design and build a completely custom and highly optimized Linux platform from source code. Customers select from the latest GNU-based optimized toolchains enabled with uClibc and glibc libraries.

The SAM9G45 processor is optimized for markets such as point of sale terminals and intelligent user interface panel controllers. LinuxLink allows customers to accelerate the development of products for these markets by providing access to hundreds of relevant middleware packages such as Qt/Embedded for Linux, GTK and bluez, making it simple and easy to create a footprint-optimized root file system (RFS) with a rich set of APIs well matched to their end applications.

For maximum flexibility, developers take advantage of both the online build system and the desktop-hosted version. With either interface, customers leverage the best Linux code from Atmel as well as from the open source community. The desktop version offers more flexibility than any other Linux build platform by allowing users to integrate third-party packages and proprietary software. LinuxLink’s update service automatically notifies customers of changes to any of the components used in their project.

Customers have access to commonly used debugging tools, within the Eclipse-based “TimeStorm” IDE. These tools help customers ensure the quality, reliability and performance of their final product. Customers receive technical support from expert Timesys engineers and have access to a vast suite of documentation.

“We are very excited about adding LinuxLink support for the new SAM9G45 processor,” said Charlie Ashton, Vice President of Business Development at Timesys. “LinuxLink is well suited for the SAM9G45’s target markets, providing open-source Linux components and tools that help our mutual customers develop a wide range of embedded multimedia and control products.”

For a limited time, developers can obtain free LinuxLink access to quickly configure, build and evaluate embedded Linux on Atmel SAM9G45-EK boards by registering at https://timesys.com/register.
