Timesys Corporation Summer 2008 Webinar Series

This summer, Timesys is presenting a series of webinars that will focus on technical topics of interest to embedded engineers. The Summer 2008 Webinar Series will be technical deep dives into areas that Timesys discusses with partners, subscribers and prospects. As with all TimeSys webinars, the Summer 2008 Series will stick to the technical facts - with no sales or marketing pitches.

While still chock-full of detailed information, these webinars will be shorter in length, about 45 minutes from start to finish.

  • Spotting Memory Leaks with MPatrol
July 10, 2008 12:00 PM EST (Pittsburgh PA Time)

Allocating memory on the heap without properly releasing it (leaking memory), can have disastrous effects on an embedded system once in the field. This webinar will explain how MPatrol works and illustrate how to use it to locate memory leaks and verify their repair. Attendees will understand the types of problems MPatrol can find and the types it can't.

  • LinuxLink's Embedded Linux Factory
July 17, 2008 12:00 PM EST (Pittsburgh PA Time)

With LinuxLink’s Embedded Linux Factory engineers create a complete starting point for a project: root file system, kernel and cross-compiler. The Embedded Linux Factory helps users by suggesting space-saving packages and coordinating kernel and root file system configuration options. Plus, the built-in RFS “pruning” feature removes common space-consuming files that don’t belong on most embedded systems.

This webinar will explain why Timesys created the Embedded Linux Factory and walk through the process of creating a distribution.

Recorded Factory webinar will be available the week of July 28 - August 1.

  • Getting the most out of OProfile
July 31, 2008 12:00 PM EST (Pittsburgh PA Time)

OProfile is an open-source, low overhead profiling tool for Linux systems that allows users to track how many times a certain "counter" was incremented over a period of time. Users can track counters on a system-wide or program-by-program basis. During this webinar, you will learn how you can use OProfile to examine your system for bottlenecks so you can focus on optimizing the code that will make the biggest difference in overall performance.

  • Reducing the Size of the Linux Kernel
August 21, 2008 12:00 PM EST (Pittsburgh PA Time)

Embedded engineers face a constant demand to reduce the size of the kernal, even when confronted with expanding requirements. Making the kernel small means removing the code not used by the project and reducing the RAM requirements once its running. This webinar will cover how to identify which parts of the kernel unnecessarily increase its static size and how to locate them, and it will introduce attendees to the available open source projects dedicated to minimizing the run-time memory footprint.
