Timesys Introduces LinuxLink for Avnet ZedBoard

ARM TechCon, Santa Clara – October 31, 2012 Timesys Corporation (https://timesys.com), today announced the availability of its award-winning LinuxLink embedded Linux framework for platform and application development to include the Avnet ZedBoard™. This latest LinuxLink offering expands Timesys’ support for Xilinx SoCs, including the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC. In keeping with the community focus, Timesys LinuxLink offers both free and paid editions for ZedBoard™ Linux development, targeting both the hobbyist and professional embedded systems developer.

Avnet’s ZedBoard™, the low-cost, community-oriented development platform for the Xilinx® Zynq™-7000 SoC, is a strong starting point for both hardware and software designers seeking to capitalize on the Zynq™-7000’s combination of programmable logic and ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 MPCore processing system. Designers, students, and hobbyists alike can take advantage of embedded Linux support for the ZedBoard™ with Timesys LinuxLink.

Timesys LinuxLink provides a fully featured environment for quickly and easily designing, developing, deploying and debugging a custom Linux board support package (BSP). Through the unique LinuxLink FREE Edition web UI, the Timesys advice engine, a universe of almost 1400 Linux packages and extensive tutorials, training material and free demo code, LinuxLink removes the complexity of embedded Linux development — a benefit to the entire ZedBoard™ community. With an optional paid LinuxLink PRO license, available at the Embedded Software Store, professional Zynq developers get the update engine, LinuxLink desktop tools for local BSP design and configuration, the TimeStorm Eclipse-based development environment for local development and industry-exclusive, unmetered support.

When needed, ZedBoard™ customers can further shorten their time-to-market by utilizing Timesys’s just-in-time professional services.

“Avnet is excited about the support from Timesys for ZedBoard™,” said Jim Beneke, VP of Global Technical Marketing at Avnet Electronics Marketing. “Timesys LinuxLink provides a powerful, flexible and very simple way for the ZedBoard™ community to efficiently design, develop and deploy embedded Linux. With a basic Linux BSP, there is considerable manual effort involved to make changes. The addition of LinuxLink to ZedBoard™ developers will make that process much faster and easier for the student and professional developer.”

“Community-driven embedded development is becoming more popular for many practical reasons, and for such a complex part as the Zynq™-7000, it makes perfect sense,” stated Brian Gildon, VP of Business Development at Timesys. “The ZedBoard™ brings this ability to develop complex embedded solutions with programmable logic to the masses. Timesys is proud to further our support for the Xilinx Zynq™-7000 by making LinuxLink available for the ZedBoard™. We can’t wait to see how the community takes advantage of both the ZedBoard™ and LinuxLink.”
