Timesys® Launches Free In-the-Cloud Embedded Linux Build System

Easy-to-use, commercial quality tool that simplifies embedded Linux development

Pittsburgh, PA – September 22, 2010 Timesys Corporation (https://timesys.com), provider of award-winning embedded Linux solutions and expert Linux support, today announced the release of Web Factory™, a free edition of its award-winning LinuxLink offering. Web Factory enables Linux newbies and experienced developers to start building applications on day one.

Timesys is the first commercial Linux vendor to offer a free, “in the cloud” application that gives platform and application developers an easy tool to quickly start building Linux applications. Web Factory combines everything developers need to test and evaluate a processor without having to set up host build environments and before finalizing hardware selection. An easy-to-use wizard guides them through each step.

With Web Factory, developers no longer have to spend time learning each free BSP/SDK provided by board vendors while testing boards. They can use a single tool — the Web Factory — to quickly build/boot Linux as well as to start developing applications — regardless of the target architecture. The Web Factory supports all key processor architectures including ARM, MIPS, Nios II, Power Architecture, SuperH and x86.

The Web Factory application combines the Linux kernel, toolchain, debugger, Timesys’ TimeStorm Eclipse based IDE and extensive how-to documentation to provide a complete embedded Linux build system, saving development teams valuable time and money. Unlike free trials offered by other vendors that are always time-limited and only available for single users, Timesys’s LinuxLink Free Edition is a fully secure, web-hosted service that is completely free for single users as well as teams.

Users can upgrade to Timesys’s Desktop Factory™ subscription anytime if they need live, expert Linux support or advanced features and in-depth customization on a selected platform.

“There are so many open source and free Linux packages available today,” said Atul Bansal, CEO of Timesys Corp. “However, these are often either difficult to customize or limited in functionality and result in developers having to spend weeks just getting ready to build applications. With the wizard-driven, easy-to-use Free Edition, we believe Timesys has made the lives of developers much easier.”
